Robert Kramer Campbell, 86, of Oakville, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born March 31, 1914, in Stephen, Minn., he was the son of Samuel and Emma Kramer Campbell. He married Ruth Mildred Lien on May 9, 1942, in Wadena, Minn. She died Sept. 21, 1996.
Mr. Campbell attended schools in Stephen, Minn., and graduated from Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis as a certified welder. He owned and operated his own welding business in Oakville.
He was a member of Oakville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men and taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. He was a co-founding director of Youth For Christ and a former Cub Scout leader. He enjoyed politics and was involved in Civil War history and the Southeast Iowa Civil War Roundtable.
Survivors include two sons, Eugene R. Campbell of Mediapolis and Frank L. Campbell of Chicago, Ill.; one daughter, Donna R. Whiting of Burlington; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one nephew.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Visitation will begin at noon today at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Campbell will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Oakville United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Chris Thomas and Harlan Winter officiating. Burial will be in Edwards Cemetery, near Oakville.
