On 13 October 1872 Thomas Sullivan Bloomer married Martha "Mattie" Fay Klepper. Mattie was born 17 December 1849, the seventeenth child of Peter Klepper who served with Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812. Thomas and Mattie lived and farmed near War Gap, Tennessee, in Hawkins County.
