CONFEDERATE SOLDIER

Mark was the 13th of 16 children- 18 counting two half siblings from his Dad's second marriage. On the old records his first name is sometimes shown as Marcus or even Demarcus.

He enlisted 26 July, 1861 in Arkadelphia, Clark County, Arkansas in CO. F, 12th ARK. INF. REGT. CSA.

Mark probably saw action at the Battle of Belmont, in Mississippi County, Missouri, on November 7, 1861, where the 12th Arkansas was one of the reserve units.

A POW at the time of his death in a Union Hospital, it is not known if he died of wounds or one of the many diseases that felled so many Civil War Soldiers on both sides.

Many thanks to Noname for putting Mark's memorial page up! It is most appreciated!
