Esther L, Ackerman Obit

Esther L. Ackerman, 95, of Milford, died Saturday, August 2, 2003. She was born on the family farm near Milford on January 29, 1908 to Abe and Ada Ackerman.

She attended District 47 country school. She was a charter member of the Milford Assembly of God Church and taught Sunday School and assisted with the Bible Memory Association program.

Miss Ackerman was a hard worker with her family on the farm. In 1938 she began a career in the ice business employed by her brother-in-law, Floyd Roll. She later purchased the business, Milford Ice and Cold Storage Co. and operated it until the advent of electric refrigeration.

Miss Ackerman was a dedicated caregiver for her family and kept house for her brother, Paul and their mother. She also assisted her brother, Paul, in his Missions and Kid's Kamp ministries.

Miss Ackerman worked at various jobs, including gift wrapping at Gold's department store and cleaning at Sky Park Manor in Lincoln.

She enjoyed gardening, especially growing roses and tomatoes.

In 1997, Miss Ackerman moved to Crestview Care Center.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, John, Jesse, Walter, James and Paul; sisters, Lydia, Ruth Roll and Mary; and nieces, Bonnibel Roll and Margie Kremer.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Grace Ackerman of Milford, nieces and spouses, Shirley and Bill Walker of Champaign, IL, Janice Simons, Gainesville, Fla., Beverly and Lyle Neal, Ann and Verlin Miller, both of Milford; nephews and spouses, Charley and Margaret Ackerman, Milford , Norman and JoAnne Roll, La Verne, Calif., Dale and Marilyn Ackerman, Grand Island, Glen and Sharon Ackerman, Albuquerque, N.M.; special friend, Marie Garber and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2-00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6,2003 at the Assembly of God Church in Milford with Pastor David Geary officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Milford.

Memorials have been established to the Assembly of God Church, Milford.

Lauber-Moore Funeral Home in Milford is in charge of arrangements.
