Dau of Merton and Margaret Canady, she was born in Churdan, Greene County, Iowa, relocating to Oxnard, Ventura County, CA with her family at the age of nine.

During her Senior year, she was a member of the dance team known as "Pom Pom Girls", she served as treasurer of her Senior class. and she was choosen Queen of the 1951 Elk's Harvest Festival.

As an adult she was a dedicated Bridge player, avid Gardener, excellent cook, perfect hostess and a loving wife and Mother. she was a supporter and participant in many activities connected with church and children.

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Edward Friel Jr, (5) children and their spouses: David of Oxnard Shores, Michael h/o of Julie of Oxnard, Diane w/o Lt Col George Sandlin of Hawaii, Julie w/o Glen Eldridge of Somis, Jane w/o Allen Robinson of Michigan; (7) Grandchildren, (4) Grt-Grandchildren and younger sister, Rhita, w/o Sam Tabor of Camarillo.

The disease that took the life of this lovely lady, was pancreatic cancer. After two years of treatment by doctors and staff of (new) St John's hospital in Oxnard, Cancer won . . . Janice passed away at home with family by her side. She is dearly loved by family and friends and she will be greatly missed.

Added note: Ironically, ninety years ago, in Dec 1919, following treatment by Doctors and staff of (old) St John's Hospital in Oxnard, Cancer won . . . my Grandfather passed away at home in Hueneme, from pancreatic cancer.

Although treatment has changed . . . the outcome has not. The problem being lack of early detection, for more than 90 years!
