Mary Ellen (McSwords) Parmiter dies at her home
a lifelong and highly respected citizen, of this county, passed away Sunday morning March 19, 9:30
oclock. Death followed a stroke of paralysis which
she sustained Monday evening, March 13. 1940.
Had she lived until June 1 she would have been
84 years of age. Her parents were the late James and Sarah Elizabeth (Gheen) McSwords. Mary Ellen
was born in Windsor township. In 1878 she married
Captain George Wallace, widely known steamboat captain. His death occurred in 1907. Her second
husband Benjamin B. Parmiter at one time county
commissioner. They were married in the year of 1913. He passed away several years ago. Surviving
are one sister, Mrs. L. P. Mason of Columbus, and two brothers C. E. McSwords, Columbus and J. C. McSwords, Zanesville. She also leaves two step-daughters Mrs. Adda Morrison of Rock Falls, Ill.
and Mrs. Bertha Blankenbuhler Denver Colorado.
A step son Jesse Wallace died about two years ago. Two sisters and two brothers are also deceased. They were Amanda McSwords, and a sister died in infancy and Dr. P. B. McSwords and E. T. McSwords. The deceased was a member of the
Methodist Episcopal church of this place and attended services so long as her health permitted.
She leaves many friends who are saddened because of her passing. Funeral service were held Thuesday
afternoon at the M. E. Church, with Rev. Glenn
Tennell, officiating. Pall bearers were J. L. Maier, C W. Lovell, Howard Price, Edsel Miller, Fred Noyes and Noble Hooper. Intermnet was in McConnelsville Cemetery.
