At 6:30 o'clock yesterday morning Mrs. Catherine Scott Pope, the estimable wife of Professor Joseph Daniel Pope, one of Columbia's most widley known citizens diedn. She had been in failing health for a long time. She was a daughter of the late Dr. J. A. Scott, and was born on St. Helena Island, this state. During her early married life she resided with her husband in the lower portion of the State, where she had many friends. In 1861 Professor Pope removed to Columbia bringing his family with him. Since that time the family has resided in Columbia. The deceased lady had a large circle of warm friends who will mourn her loss.
She leaves surviving her one son and one daughter, Mr. Joseph Daniel Pope Jr., and Mrs. S. Reed Stoney. The funeral services will be held at 11:30 o'clock tomorrow morning at Trinity Church, being conducted by the Rev. Dr. W.E. Evans. The following gentlemen will act as pallbearers:
Senior-Dr. A.N. Talley, Dr. James Woodrow, Judge S. W. Melton, Col. F.W. McMaster, Dr. Edmund L. Patton and Dr. Edward S. Joynes.
