Lewis W. Russell, 84, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Monday, October 12, 2009, at Lewis-Gale Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Lorena Russell. Mr. Russell was a member of Oakland Baptist Church for 72 years. He served in the 30th Infantry Division during World War II and in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He retired as supervisor in the Material Management Department with the Norfolk Southern Corporation. Surviving are his wife, Frances, the love of his life for 62 years; son, Lewis Wayne Russell Jr. and wife, Lynda; granddaughter, Laura Russell; and grandson, Kristopher Russell and wife, Kelly, all of Chesapeake, Va. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2009, at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. Scotty Carpenter officiating. The interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.
