Margaret J. Eckard, 79, Pittsburgh, formerly of 214 Wayne St., Hollidaysburg, died Thursday at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was born in Duncansville, daughter of William and Marie Ott. She married Edwin E. Eckard in Newry, and he preceded her in death Jan. 18, 2005.

Surviving are five sons: Ed, Thomas, Leon and James of Altoona and John of Pittsburgh; three daughters: Margaret Sprankle in South Carolina, Grace Crosson in Texas and Catherine Eckard of Altoona; 35 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Ott in Nevada; two sisters: Grace DeArmitt in South Carolina and Phyllis Sallter in North Carolina; and her caregiver for three years, Amy Storms.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, James R. Whitsel on Oct. 1, 1998.

Margaret was a former member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg (www.pssfh.com), where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, by Father Clement Gardner. Interment at Carson Valley Cemetery.
