Benjamin F. was the youngest child of Joseph Carter 1791-1876 & Elizabeth Ann Scott 1794-1854.

Benjamin was born about 1841 in Grassy Creek, Morgan, KY. He married first Trissy Carpenter on 28 May 1860 in Morgan Co, KY. She was the daughter of Harvey Carpenter and Cynthia Moore. The infant buried with Benjamin and wife Trissy is believed to be their infant child.

In Benjamin's Civil War Draft Registration Record of Oct 1863, he was listed as age 22, a farmer with no Former Military Service, and married (to wife Trissy).

After the death of wife Trissy, Benjamin married second Dorothy Ellington on 10 March 1864 in Morgan Co, KY. Benjamin was listed as divorced in the August 1870 census of Lexington, KY. Their children were Annie Carter 1866-1883 and an unknown child as described below.

At age 64, Dorothy was listed in the June 1900 census of Morgan County, as wife of David Caskey Blair, married less than one year, two children and none living. Because of Dorothy's advanced age of 64 and recent marriage of less than one year, the two children she listed were from her first marriage to Benjamin F. Carter.

Benjamin was not listed in the 1880 census nor any later records. He was buried alongside his wife and infant in the family cemetery. His death date is unknown.

NOTE: CARTER GRAVES
These graves are located about one mile south
of Grassy Creek, KY, off Hwy 205, to the right of a bridge leading to the Bert Gevedon Farm

Something that makes these graves unique is that they are in a homemade type mausoleum. The stones used to create this mausoleum are completely surrounded by saplings and one would not realize there were graves there if they did not know what they were looking at. Mr. Bert Gevedon had tried to keep saplings cut back but roots were under the tomb.
