Elizabeth Janet Adam Heim, 96 of rural Middletown, died at 7:56 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at Waters Funeral Chapel, Vandalia, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Jarvis officiating. Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Dan Heim, David Heim, Aaron Heim, Wyatt Facendini, Alan Adam and Terry Newland. Honorary pallbearers are Michelle Heim, Laverne O'brecht, Daryl Eskew, Gary Heim and Archie O'brecht.

After graduating from Neosho High School in 1931, Elizabeth moved to the Vandalia area and worked for six years at the Ely Walker Garment Factory. She then married Wendell Heim and became a full time homemaker on the family farm north of Middletown. Elizabeth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia and had been active with the Audrain County Young Farmers Association. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, cooking, feeding and watching her birds and yard work.

Elizabeth was born April 11, 1913 in Crete, Ill., the daughter of David and Mary Ann (Muirhead) Adam.

She married Wendell Lemon Heim on March 15, 1941 in St. Louis; he preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Norman M. and wife, Jane Heim, of rural Middleton, and Anthony M. and wife, Mary Ann Heim, of rural Middletown; four grandchildren, Dan and wife, Brianna Heim of Port Byron, Ill., David and wife, Dana Heim, of Avon, Ind., Michelle Heim of St. Charles and Aaron and wife, Jennifer Heim, of Mexico; seven great-grandchildren, Nathan, Trenton and Kirsten Heim of Avon, Ind., Kaitlyn and Addison Heim of Mexico, Alaina and Colton Heim of Port Byron, Ill.; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell; two brothers, Andrew Adam and William Adam; and two sisters, Nell Adam and Nan Adam.
