Gertrude Hawkins, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. O'Bannon, was born in Buffalo, Mo., Nov 1, 1887, Thanksgiving Day. Nov 26, 1909, she was married to G. C. Hawkins of Brumley, Mo., where she died July 20, 1917. She united with the Christian Church sixteen years ago in Springfield, Mo. and was faithful until her death; henceforth there is laid up for her a crown of life. Loved by all who knew her, we are loath to give her up. She was young, brilliant, beautiful, kind and true. The sad empty and ruined home in Brumley, made so in the taking of Gerdie, stands as a monument to her good name. A splendid asset to the community, her quiet tender life will be greatly missed for her life was a wreath unto which were woven many garlands. she has entered her chamber in the silent halls of death, but it will be a home of splendor and triumph. She has entered the gate to the City of God and all the white robed host of the sky rejoice at her coming. She sings the new, new song in which are joined all the anthems and melodies and hallejahs. The pendulum of life is stilled but her ransomed spirit is mounted on angel's pinions in a blissul immortality, therefore we sorrow not as others who have no hope.
We conducted a brief service at the home in Brumley from which her remains were taken to the family cemetery in Buffalo, Mo. where her body will rest until the coming of the Lord. Until then farewell. Sadly and brotherly - J. C. Thompson
