He entered the Army in World War II in May 1942 and served in France and Germany and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged in October 1945.
On June 23, 1945, in Belfast, Ireland, he married Mary Theresa "May" Mahood. Following his discharge from the service, he came to Minot and operated the first 24 hour a day gasoline filling station for Mobil Oil at the corner of Main Street and South Broadway for six years. He then moved to Donnybrook where he owned the Donnybrook Bar for 12 years. He returned to Minot and became an insurance agent for Northwestern National Life Insurance Company, and remained with that company until his death.
He had received a number of state and local awards wit that company including trips to Rome, Switzerland, Hawaii and Las Vegas.
He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and was a member of the Usher's Club there for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion in Donnybrook of which he was a past commander. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all Minot.
Survivors: wife, brothers, Ludger and Eugene; sisters, Marie Sanford and Gertrude Fuerstenberg.
