SOUTH BURLINGTON - Rose "Beebe" Allen Monahan Risik died peacefully of natural causes early Saturday morning, Oct. 17, 2009, at her South Burlington home.

She was born in Montpelier, on Aug. 23, 1917, the youngest child of Lillian and Abraham Allen. Rose graduated from Cathedral Grammar and High Schools and began working at the Fannie Farmer Candy Shop on Church Street and subsequently the American Woolen Mill in Winooski.

On Aug. 12, 1949, she married Thomas Monahan who predeceased her on April 17, 1962.

At that time, Rose was working as a seamstress for Maternities, Inc. on College Street in Burlington.

On June 12, 1970, Rose married Wehbe "Bob" Risik and made her home with him in South Burlington, Wehbe predeceased her on Dec. 16, 2001.

Rose was a gracious hostess, always delighted to receive visitors to whom she wholeheartedly offered multiple choices of food and beverages in typical Lebanese style. She loved children but was never fortunate enough to have had any of her own. She enjoyed being affectionately called "Aunt Booba" by her nieces and nephews who, as young children, were unable to pronounce "Beebe" correctly. During her years of advancing age, she enjoyed simple pleasures such as watching birds and squirrels at her feeder, keeping an eye on Brewer Parkway activity, especially all the dogs and cats, trips to the mall with Linda, her primary caregiver, outings with Barb and/or Monica, and eating out.

Rose was predeceased by her sisters, Katherine Corey, Madeline Losey, Anna Corey, Josephine Morin, Martha Simon Thomas and her only brother, Mansur Allen, who died at age 12 in a sledding accident.

She is survived by her stepchildren, Barbara Risik of South Burlington and Daniel Risik of Grand Praire, Texas; her niece, Monica Simon Farrington, nephew Edward Morin, nephew Ronald Corey, niece Laraine Morin Duchaine, all of Vermont together with many grand nieces and nephews.

In addition, she is survived by her faithful long term caregiver, Linda Cash, and several other support caregivers providing care that allowed Rose to remain at home during her years of declining health.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church on Flynn Avenue at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, with burial to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
