He was born July 21, 1914, in Osage County, Kansas, the son of William and Jennie Burns Masters.
He grew up in Burlingame, and attended the Burlingame Schools. Eng mined coal and worked for the WPA, prior to becoming a self employed truck driver.
He married Nellie Taylor, July 20, 1935, at Topeka, Kansas. She died January 27, 2001.
He also was preceded in death by a son, Billy Dean Masters, who died in infancy; three brothers, William, Gilbert, and Robert Masters; and three sisters, Edna Renyer, Irene Ryan and Pearl Johnson.
Survivors include his daughter, Shirley (Robert) Atchison, Sr., Burlingame; a sister, Emma Dorr, Osage City, Kansas; four grandchildren, Robert Atchison, Jr., Steven Atchison, Russell (Cathy) Atchison, and Carolyn (Chad) Bonczkowski; nine great grandchildren, and seven great great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at the Burlingame Federated Church.
Burial will be in Burlingame Cemetery.
He will lie in state from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Carey Funeral Home, Burlingame, where family visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Burlingame Federated Church or the Burlingame First Responders, and sent c/o the funeral home, P.O. Box 196, Burlingame, KS 66413.
