Thelma was the oldest child and daughter of Vivian Goodrich. She was raised by Vivian in Weldon, Halifax County, NC until 1920 when the family relocated to Petersburg, VA. In her early twenties she married Ernest Bowman of Ettrick, VA and she and Ernest had three children - a daughter, Alma and a set of twins, Mildred and Milton Bowman. After she and Ernest divorced in 1935, she married Charles Curtis Williams, a soldier she met in Hampton (Phoebus), VA. Shortly after her second marriage, Thelma was killed in an automobile accident enroute to Petersburg from Phoebus on 27 December 1935. Her 3 young children were raised in Ettrick, VA by Ernest and their grandparents.
