There is no doubt that when Larry arrived in Heaven, Jesus wrapped him in his arms and said, "I'm so pleased to see you, my good and humble servant."

Larry Ray Taylor passed away peacefully October 19, 2009. He was born in Clearwater, Nebraska on January 14, 1936 to Dorothy Beed and Raymond Taylor.

Larry served in the National Guard and National Guard Reserves. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church since 1972, where he served as a Facilities Director for 20 years. Larry was dearly loved and cherished by his church family at CUMC. Even after his retirement, he continued to be at the church almost daily helping with every aspect of the day-to-day life of the church. Everyone knew that Larry was at work helping someone when they would pull into the church parking lot and see his big white truck with the Nascar logos. He knew everything about how to run the church and he was everyone's "go-to" guy.

Larry was a true Boy Scout every day of his life and always practiced the values of scouting. He served as liason between the Boy Scouts of America-Great Salt Lake Council and the scouting program at CUMC, including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venture Crew. He was a constant at all scouting activities, including the infamous Buffalo Barbecue, which is quickly approaching its annual 50th anniversary. His presence will be sorely missed every year at this monumental event. Among Larry's many scouting awards is the Silver Beaver, the highest award given to adult leaders of Boy Scouts of America. Larry was often affectionaly referred to as the "Grand Poobah" of scouting. He knew everything that needed to be known and, as always, he was once again, everyone's "go-to" guy.

Larry is survived by his children, Mark (Patricia), Nancy (Thomas), Kent (Casey), Jarred (Stephanie), and Nicholas (Samantha); 10 grandchildren, Ashley, Britton, TJ, Chris, Jeremy, McKenzie, Annie, Maxwell, Mia, Max; and a great-grandchild, Kaeden; and his many friends and associates from Christ United Methodist Church and the Great Salt Lake Council of the Boy Scouts of America. A memorial service was held Friday, October 23, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 2375 East 3300 South. In lieu of flowers the family requested donations be made to the Larry Taylor Campship Fund, 2375 East 3300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84109 to enable Boy Scouts in need of financial assistance to attend summer camp.
