He was born October 17, 1914 in rural Charlesburg, WI the son of the late Joseph & Mary (Eckes) Suttner. He was the 2nd of 7 children. Herbert attended St. Charles Catholic Grade School in Charlesburg.
On April 27th 1938 he married the late Rosetta Meyer at St. Anna Catholic Church by Rev. Joseph Bartema. The couple celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in April of 2006. Rosetta preceded Herbert in death on July 26, 2006.
Herbert and Rosetta farmed in rural New Holstein for about 30 years. He was also employed at various local factories including the Hart Carter Co. of Lauson Engines, Brillion Iron Works and the Kiel Foundry Co.
Herbert enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching football and Becks Bier. Herbert and Rosetta visited all 50 states and 18 countries in Africa, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Herbert is the father of and survived by JoAnn (Lee) Schneider of Crystal Lake, Harlee Suttner and Lonald (Pat) Suttner who reside locally and a foster son, Alvin Hopfensperger of Appleton; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; his brother, Paul Suttner of Curtiss, WI; 4 sisters, Tracilla Brandel of CA, Dolores Shaver & Rosemary Suttner both of West Bend, and Emily (Jerry) Krug of Jackson, WI; 4 sister's-in-law, Erna (Henry) Thiedeman of Wilkes Lake, Virginia Kandler of Colgate, WI, Evangeline Meyer of Chilton and Janet (Nick) Steinmetz of Chilton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brother, Cyril (Thelma) Suttner; brother's-in-law, Donald Brandel, Hugo Shaver, Leonard Kandler, Orville Reichardt, Harvey Meyer, Robert Meyer, Clarence (Marie) Meyer, Alfred (Jane) Meyer, Raymond (Gertrude) Meyer and Sylvan Meyer; his sister's-in-law, Helen Suttner and Marion Meyer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday March 31, 2007 at St. Anna Catholic Church in St. Anna. Rev. Harold Berryman, Pastor, will officiate. Entombment will be at the Knollwood Mausoleum in rural Manitowoc.
