Joseph Carpenter was born Joseph Zimmerman but his father changed thier name to Carpenter probably because Carpentry was their trade and the animosity shown to German, Irish and Asian decendents during this time in the mid 1700's. Documents show the tie of Fredrick Carpenter census listing to his father Christian Zimmerman.
