Alice Lee was born on June 4, 1736, at Stratford Hall Plantation, in Westmoreland County, Virginia, to Colonel Thomas Lee and his wife, Hannah (Ludwell) Lee. She was the seventh of at least 10 children. Two of her brothers were Lt Col. Richard Henry Lee 1732-1794 and Francis Lightfoot Lee 1734- 1797, signers of the Declaration of Independence.

Her son Thomas Shippen b.1765 Philadelphia d.Feb 4, 1798 Charlestown South Carolina, was married in 1791 to Elizabeth Carter {Farley} Bannister Shippen Izard. They were the parents of Dr William Shippen who was the father of Dr Edward Shippen. Dr Edward Shippen was married 1879 to Rebecca Lloyd {Nicholson} who was the Widdow of CS Captain John Edgar Howard Post {b.Feb. 19, 1841 d. Feb. 12, 1876} whose mother Margaret {Howard} Post was the daugther of Maryland Governor George Howard.
