By Mary Wright Davies

Rev. Robert Edward Wright, called Rev. "Ed" Wright to family, friends and parishioners was a Methodist-Episcopal Minister Circuit Rider who began preaching when he was eighteen. Rev. Robert Edward Wright was 20 years of age and Octavia "Octavy" Morris was 17, a daughter of neighbor farmer Moses A. Morris and Martha A. (Smith) Morris. They were married by his Minister father, Rev. Robert Dickerson Wright on July 20, 1880 in Sabine County, Texas. They had no children. She died April 5, 1884, and was buried in the Morris Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas.
On November 2, 1884 Robert Edward Wright married Cynthia Elvira (Gary) Wright (born August 17, 1854 - died March 4, 1888), daughter of pioneer, frontiersman, and farmer Govy Gordon Gary and Mary Ann Jackson (Carter) Gary. Cynthia Elvira was the widow of Rev. John Wesley Wright with whom she had six children. He was Robert Wright's Uncle for his father Rev. Robert Dickerson Wright and Rev. John Wesley Wright were brothers.

Robert Edward Wright & Cynthia Elvira (Gary) Wright's children:

1. George Asrel Wright: b October 2, 1885 Angelina County, Texas - d October 29, 1965 Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas. Married May Bell Curry, daughter of English ship Captain Jim McCurry and Eleanor Wright, a daughter of Rev. Henry Dawson Wright and Martha Jacks. Rev. Henry Wright was appointed 1st Pastor of Ryan Chapel United Methodist Church South in Burke, Angelina County, Texas in 1866 and remained Pastor until his death late October - December 1877. He was laid to rest in the adjoining Ryan Chapel Cemetery.

2. Robert Govy Wright: b February 4, 1888 San Augustine County, Texas - b March 4, 1888 Saratoga, Hardin County, Texas. The infant son was called "Govy" by parents. Wood Cemetery, San Augustine County, Texas.

Cynthia Elvira Wright and and infant son Govy Wright died on March 4, 1888 in Saratoga, Hardin County, Texas. Grieving, Robert Wright refused to bury them where he was working in the oil fields [the oil boom was beginning] between Saratoga and Batson, Texas. He carried the 6 living children home, with the bodies of his beloved wife and baby, by a horse pulled wagon about a hundred miles, and buried Cynthia Elvira and baby Govy (marker G.W.) by the side of Rev. John Wesley Wright in Wood Cemetery upon the sloping hill under the tall spruce trees. [Reference in year 1982: Oral history by A. G. Gary of Brookland, Sabine County, Texas, Great-Grandson of Govy Gary & Mary Carter Gary].

Mary Ann Jackson (Carter) Gary, widow of Cynthia Elvira's father Govy Gary on May 9, 1869, and widow of William Henry Loggins in 1885, welcomed her grandchildren, five of the six children of Rev. John Wesley Wright and Cynthia Elvira (Gary) Wright. John and Elvira's eldest daughter, lovely Molly Wright, married Henry Powell about a month after her father's death in 1884. Grandma Mary (Carter)[Gary] Loggins continued teaching them Christian values, honesty, and love of family as their parents had. They never forgot her love, life lessons, and stories. Cynthia Sarah Wright shared them with her Grand daughter Erma Wright when she was a young girl. [Reference: Erma Wright Beene, 1982, Cleburne, Texas, daughter of Isaac William "Willie" Wright, son of Cynthia and Francis Asbury Wright].
Cynthia Sarah Wright taught Sunday School at Centerview Methodist Church in the small white painted country church in the piney woods at Centerview, Sabine County, Texas. In warm weather she taught the children outdoors under the shade of the big oak tree. [Reference: Conversation with Rev. John Earl Wright, Pineland, Texas February, 2011].
