Entertainer, Variety Show Host, Singer. Don Lane, winner of 15 Logies, highest paid television personality and host of Australia's most popular show throughout the 1970's and 1980's. Born Morton Donald Isaacson, the son of Jacob and Dolly, he lived with his family in New York and in the 1950's was drafted into the US Army. Having completed his service he went on tour entertaining the troops for another two years. In 1965 Don migrated to Australia and was a leading nightclub performer before being recruited by Channel 9 as a television host. The Don Lane Show brought the glitz and glamour of Hollywood into Australian homes and it became the highest rating talk show in Australian history. Don was affectionately known as "The Lanky Yank" and together with Bert "Moon Face" Newton as his side-kick, Australia was entertained every week with an assortment of stunts, buffoonery and celebrity interviews. Among the many stars appearing on his show were ABBA, Billy Connolly, Robin Williams, Peter Sellers, Liza Minnelli, Sammy Davis Jr, Dean Martin, Kirk Douglas, Muhammad Ali, Dolly Parton and Bob Hope. After an appearance on The Don Lane Show, celebrities could be sure of a sell out show. Always professional and charming, Don defined night-time entertainment in Australia. In 2003 Don Lane was inducted into the Logies Hall of Fame and sadly this was one of his last public appearances. His illness came as a shock to all as he was a "health nut" who rarely drank alcohol and was always taking vitamin supplements. The legendary Don Lane, who ended every show with the words "I love your faces" has passed away at the age of 75 from a dementia related disease and was farewelled at a private funeral service
