James Washington Corfman was born June 4, 1838 in Perry County Ohio, the son of Deacon John and Delilah Holms Corfman. He married Mary Elizabeth Garner on Oct 4, 1859. They had four childres: Lorinda Delilah, Lewis Vincent, Minnie Margaret and Mattie who died at age 3.
They traveled from Ohio by Prairie schooner in 1873 and settled near Lenora, Kansas, where they lived in a soddy.
They then moved to Norton where he built their home.
He was a cabinet maker by trade and built many of the early homes in Norton. His daughter Minnie Margaret married AL Drummond in 1887 and they had three children. All of the Drummond children and many of the grand children lived in the original Corfman home.
Mr Corfman died at the home in 1913.
