From: Hesse-Kassel, Germany. in 1849 came via the Cape Horn to Placer Co., California. Later he returned and brought his wife in 1852. He conducted a hotel in Auburn for several years. Mined at Dotys flat then returned to the Kittler Hotel above Ophir on the road to Lincoln, which he operated until his death. Eleven children were born of this pioneer couple.
