Obituary:

Raymond M. Bitterman, 77, of Libby, died Sunday afternoon at the Libby Care Center after a long illness.

He was born April 6, 1906, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Edward and Elsie Bitterman. He moved with his parents to Libby in 1913 where they homesteaded on the Kootenai River near China Rapids. He was raised in Libby and attended school there.

He worked for the Great Northern Railroad and then worked in the shipyards in Los Angeles during World War II. Following the war he returned to Libby where he ranched for many years and later sold mutual funds until retiring in 1970.

He married Eva Blackenmeister on April 28, 1969, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Survivors include his wife, Eva, Libby; two brothers, Albert Bitterman and Harold Bitterman, both of Libby; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Vial Funeral Home Chapel in Libby with the Rev. Mike McLaughlan of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Libby Cemetery. The family has suggested memorials to the American Cancer Society.
