ARTHUR WILLIAM SUSOTT:

Born February 5, 1904 on a farm in Greer Township near Elberfeld, Indiana. The son of August Frederick Susott and Bertha Louise Gerichs Susott. He was the oldest of 4 siblings, Herbert William Susott, Florence Louise Susott Spiegel Elder, and Dorothy Luella Susott Fulkerson.

In 1918, Art joined the Lone Scouts of America which was scouting for boys that lived in rural areas.

Art graduated in 1922 from Elberfeld High School and in 1929 received a B.A. degree in Journalism at the University of Wisconsin.

After High School, Art Susott worked two years as a reporter for the Evansville Courier, and between his Sophomore and Junior years at the University, worked a year as a reporter and feature writer for The Kokomo Dispatch.

At the University of Wisconsin, he was elected to membership in the Society of Professional Journalists, Sigma Delta Chi. He served as president during his Senior year of the Wisconsin chapter of Delta Sigma Phi. Art also handled publicity for the Wisconsin Players, a drama society. During a summer term, he was sports editor of the University paper, The Daily Cardinal

Following graduation, he was editor of small daily newspapers in the Midwest, and in 1935 joined the Press Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Washington D.C. as an Agricultural writer. He continued in information work for the USDA for 30 years until his retirement in 1965. In his last 20 years with the USDA, he was regional information officer for the Agricultural Marketing Service with the headquarters at Atlanta, Ga.

Art and Reba were married 69 years till his death. They have 2 daughters and raised a grandchild.

He and his wife, Reba were members of the Venice-Nokomis Presbyterian Church in Venice Florida, having previously been members of the Atlanta Peachtree Presbyterian Church, where he served on the diaconate.

Art's hobbies were a lifetime interest in The Lone Scouts, fishing, gardening, genealogy, sports, and kite flying

He is survived by 2 daughters, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
