Born in Dillenberg, Nassau, Germany in 1726. Emigrated to the United States in 1751. Trained for the ministry in Europe, he received his calling in this country but did not travel back to Europe as was necessary at the time to be officially ordained. Nevertheless he served as minister at Tohickon, and nearby congregations. Ca 1762 he removed from Tohickon to Allen township, and became the pastor of the three congregations of Moore township, at Jost Dreisbach's and Indian Land. He died in November 1773 (his widow applied as administrator of his estate 30 Nov 1773) and was "buried by loving hands under the altar" of the church in Moore township. In 1873 the congregation erected a monument to his memory in the churchyard of Emanuel's Church, Petersville, PA.

Reverend Hecker was the husband of Catherine and the father of Adam, Yost, Jonas, Mrs. Peter Troxel, Mrs. Bartholomew, and Mrs. Koch.

Note that Catherine's maiden name and their marriage were not recorded. Specifically Catherine was NOT the daughter of Simon Dreisbach. See http://www.dreisbachfamily.org/genealogy/simonline.html
