Sarah Francis Nevius was one of at least 12 children born to George G. Nievus and and Catherine Augusta Mathews.

She was born in 1865 in Iowa and came to Kansas when she was 3 weeks old. In 1870 she lived in Sheridan, Linn, Kansas.

On 1 May 1890 she married Andrew Joseph (Andy J) Phillips in Mound City, Linn, Kansas. To this union 11 children were born: Ethel May, Floyd Esna, Elmer Louis, Lucy E, William Bryan, Charles Chester, George A, Wilbur, Edith, Dora, Minnie.

On 10 Oct 1922 she was widowed when Andy J. Passed away. She was preceded in death by at least the following children: Ethel May, Lucy E, William Bryan (Bryan), and Charles Chester.

She was a long time resident of Prescott, Kansas until 1943 when she moved to Paola, Kansas.

She was survived by 6 children, her sister Mrs. Minnie Farrell, and a brother Charley Nevius.

Conflicting information about her place of birth in census records over a period of decades lists her birth place as Illinois and Iowa. Illinois is included here because it is what was in the published obituary.
