TUSCALOOSA | Marilee Summerville, age 82, of Tuscaloosa, died Jan. 8, 2006 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa. Burial will follow in Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Her father, Sam Hugh Summerville, mother, Gertrude Summerville Gray, and brother, Sam Hugh Summerville, Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sisters, Sara S. Nichols (Thomas) and Doris S. Henry (Ron); nieces and nephews, Robbie Summerville, Tommy Summerville (Linda), Jane Walker, Judy Hayes (Steve), Lynne DeFrance, Debbie Parr (David) and Ronald Henry; great nieces and nephews, Justin Summerville, Ben Walker (Kylie), Katy Shelby (Brad), Douglas Hayes, Jennifer DeFrance, Christy DeFrance, Emily DeFrance, Susan DeFrance, Michael Anders, Meredith Parr, David Henry; and two great-great nephews.

Born June 9, 1923 in Tuscaloosa, she attended Taylorville Elementary School, was a graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School Class of 1941, and earned a B.S. degree from the University of Alabama in Commerce and Business Administration. After graduation, she began work as Registrar for UA College of Engineering and later worked at Rose Administration Building, first in Payroll, then in Contracts and Grants, for 40 total years of service and remained a life long Crimson Tide fan. She was dedicated to God and His church and lived her life giving to and serving others. As a teenager, she worked during the summer at Ridgecrest (N.C.) Baptist Retreat. She was a long time member of Southside Baptist Church where she was active in the leadership of children and youth. She gave many volunteer hours to young people through the UA Baptist Student Ministries. Later in life she was an active member of First Baptist Church, and over her lifetime tirelessly devoted herself to supporting and serving in Sunday School, WMU, and international missions. She was a member of the Tuscaloosa Genealogical Society Night Group for many years and was a descendent of several Tuscaloosa County pioneer families, including Hamner, Shirley, Chism, Sanders, and Robertson. She also held memberships in AAUW, BPW, UA Commerce Executives Society, and the Tuscaloosa Chapter of the Alabama Wildflower Society.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Henry, Steve Hayes, David Parr, Douglas Hayes, David Henry and Michael Anders.
