Hiram E. Marquis, 68, of Lake Como, RD 4, Cortland, died early today in Cortland Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 8, 1903, in Colfax, Iowa and had been a resident of the Cortland area most of his life.
He was a member of the Homer Congregational Church for more than 35 years and also a member and past master of Homer Grange. He was past president for the Cortland Local of the Dairymen's League Co-Op, and had served as secretary-treasurer of sub-district 14A of the Dairymen's League for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hilda Marquis of Lake Como; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Janet) Young of Union Springs; a brother James Marquis, Freeville; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Allen of Cortland and Mrs. Fred (Grace) Kirk of Locke; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., N. Homer at the convenience of the family. The Rev. James H. Russell minister of the Homer Congregational Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Atwater Cemetery, Homer. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Homer Congregational Church or to the Heart Fund in memory of Mr. Marquis.
