Scott Tongate was born May 31, 1930, in Brownwood. A carpenter and builder most of his life, Scott lived in Bedford. He was a 50-year member of Hurst Masonic Lodge, where he was a past master. Scott was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman and enjoyed many adventures and honors. One of the highlights of his fishing career occurred on Oct. 13, 1989, when he caught a 16.02 lb. bass at Possum Kingdom Lake. The bass set the lake record for Possum Kingdom that still stands today.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ella Tongate; brothers, Glenn and Bruce Tongate; sister, Billie Irwin; and grandson, Jeff Tongate.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Alan Ohman and staff at North Hills Hospital and Universal Health Services Hospice facility for their incredible care.
Survivors: Wife of 62 years, Joan; sons, Larry Tongate and wife, Barbara, Gary Tongate and wife, Vicki, Dickie Tongate and wife, Joycelyn; daughter, Pam Webb and husband, Rob; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Tongate; sister, Rilla Stewart; multiple nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
