She was born Apr. 28, 1909 in Portland, Ore., to Julia (Larson) and Harry Hunter. Her pioneer grandfather, Julius Larson, shipwrecked at Coos Bay, Ore., in 1863 and the family continued to live in that area. Her father died when she was twelve.

She graduated from Marshfield High School, but also attended high school in Hollywood, Calif. and Seattle, Wash. After her graduation from Southern Oregon College in Ashland, Ore., in 1928 she went on to teach school in Coos County. In 1933 she graduated from the University of Washington where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha.

In 1934, she married Thomas C. Counts and in 1935 her daughter Judith was born. Camas Valley, Ore. became her permanent home in 1941 and in 1942 she began teaching first grade. She retired from teaching in 1982 but went on to substitute in Winston for 20 years. Lucile and Leslie were married in August 1956 and traveled the world together: Europe, South America, Australia, Mexico, Canada and Japan. They also took eight cruises including Alaska, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.

During her life she enjoyed 20 years in the Camas Valley Garden Club, 30 years as the Treasurer of Camas Valley Methodist Church, as well as serving in many capacities as a Grange member. She enjoyed reading and when her sight failed, she listened to audio tapes provided by Services for the Blind. For years, her crocheted wash cloths were a staple at any shower. Lucile and Leslie were active in local Senior Centers. Swimming at Slater Bottom and the Y was a favorite activity. Lucile and Leslie loved people and enjoyed keeping in touch with many friends through the years.
