A wonderful husband, loving father, and faithful friend, ALLEN ANTHONY CHERNOSKY, 88, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at his home in Houston, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Louise Newman. He was born in Rosenberg, Texas March 6, 1915. He graduated with honors from the University of Texas, earning a Masters in Physics and Applied Mathematics. " Wind Makes Tower Sway, says Chernosky" was an article published in the local newspaper that disclosed the results of his master thesis. Allen disproved the current academia misconception that the tower at the University of Texas did not sway in the wind. During World War II, he was on the team at Harvard University that developed sono-bouy technology. This technology was developed for the purpose of tracking and eventually destroying enemy submarines and is still in use today by our military. Ultra sound science, used in prenatal medicine is a direct result of this technology. He worked for Humble Oil Company, now Exxon, for 34 years. His greatest joy and top priority in his life was spending time with his wife, three daughters and twelve grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. He delighted in serving others. He was a member of the Czech Heritage Society and served on the Vestry of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by parents Anton Arthur Chernosky and Annie Stella Esterak Chernosky and sister Lanell Parker. Mr. Chernosky is also survived by daughters Gayle Bannerot, Lynn Swaffar and husband Jim and Merle Rumsey and husband David; grandchildren Gregory Bannerot and wife, Melissa, Shelley Bannerot, Marie Bannerot, Jimmie Swaffar, Andrew Swaffar, Catherine Swaffar, Davis Rumsey and wife, Shannan, Alexis Thunell and husband, Adam, Lauren Hausman and husband, Hubble, Clark Rumsey, Adrienne Rumsey and Ford Rumsey; great grandchildren Julia Bannerot, Gary Bannerot, Annie Thunell, Savannah Thunell, Kate Thunell and Julia Hausman. Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock in the morning on Saturday, March 22, 2003 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 3816 Bellaire Blvd. with The Rev. Canon Rayford B. High, Jr. officiating. A reception will follow at 12 noon at the church. Graveside services and interment will follow at 3 o'clock in the afternoon at the Woodmen of the World Cemetery in Rosenberg, Texas. Pallbearers will be Gregory Bannerot, Jim Swaffar, Jimmie Swaffar, Andrew Swaffar, David Rumsey, Davis Rumsey, Clark Rumsey, Ford Rumsey, Adam Thunell and Hubble Hausman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Czech Cultural Center Houston, 2315 Del Norte, Houston, Texas 77018-1018 (713)-686-6362 or 713-682-4608.
