Clarence W. Hawkins, 89, a life-time area resident, died Tuesday in a Visalia hospital.

He was born in rural Tulare and attended Liberty School and Tulare High School. He married the former Gertrude Bock in 1954 in Santa Cruz and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Visalia.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Gordon Hawkins of Visalia; one daughter Irene Miller of Visalia; one stepson of Fresno; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at the Visalia Cemetery.

His mother, Emma Willard, was the granddaughter of Alexander H. Willard, a member of the Lewis & Clark Expedition of 1804-1806. And the granddaughter of John Allen Wakefield.
