Miss Vera A. Pratt, 66, died in Cherokee Thursday, April 2 at 3:30 p.m. following a long illness. She had been a resident of Cherokee since 1929, having been a high school teacher here for 31 years before retiring in 1960.
Born April 11, 1897 in Almena, Kan., she received her early education there, then attended and graduated from Washburn College at Topeka, Kan., in 1920.
After entering the teaching profession she taught in schools at Almena, Severance, Kingsley, St. John's and Norton, Kan., prior to coming to Cherokee.
She was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church, PEO, and was active in numerous church and civic affairs, writing and rock collecting were among her many hobbies. She was a charter member of Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Survivors are one sister, Mrs. Louise Lundemo of Carpentersville, Ill. and two brothers, William Pratt of Flint, Mich. and Leslie of Chicago.
Funeral services are to be Monday, April 6 at 2 p.m. from St. Paul's Methodist Church with Rev. Victor V. Schuldt officiating. Burial is to be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Boothby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
