Mary W. Hudson author, was born in Bucks county, Pennsylvania. June 10, 1840. Mrs. Hudson's parents, Edward K. and Sarah T. Smith, and all of her ancestors belonged to the Society of Friends. They have been noted for the active support which they have given to every moral reform which has been advocated in their time and for the positive qualities of charter displayed at all times. Mrs. Mary Hudson is the wife of Maj. J. K. Hudson, the editor and proprietor of the Topeka (Kan.) Capital and a conspicuous figure in the history of Kansas. She married at Wyandotte, Kan., April 5, 1863 and accompanied her husband, who was then attached to the Army of the Frontier, to Rollie, Mo., where for some time she shared with him the fortunes of war. Her literary efforts in the east have all been in the interest of the several successful journals.
