Mary Mae (Mazie) Smith Cole, passed away October 21, 2009, at her daughter, Ella William's, home after a battle with cancer.

Mazie was an amazing woman; she was born to Edgar and Zephie Roper Smith on January 26, 1930 in Loves Valley in Love County. She was the youngest of 4 children. She loved her parents very much, but her great uncle Fred is the person whom she spent most of her time with growing up.

She was 16 when she met Floyd Gwen, he went to war and they lost touch. She fell in love with and married James Cole. In the 50's they made a lasting home on S.W. 23rd where they raised their 8 children and helped raise some of the grandchildren.

Family was very important to her and she took great pleasure in spending time with her family. Mazie was a loving, strong willed person who stood up for what she thought to be right. Mazie worked outside the home as a housekeeper and took her children and grand children with her. She enjoyed working with her hands, she liked sewing, crafting, making dolls and took great pleasure in working in her garden, (she loved roses) and she enjoyed listening to country music.

After her husbands death in 1983 she wanted to move back to the country and in 1990 she moved to Ravia to be closer to her sister Pearly Tipton and brother Jessie Smith and his wife Carol.

When her health began to fail she moved to Ardmore to live with daughter Ella Williams and husband Chuck where she resided until her death.

Mazie was preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Zephie Smith her beloved uncle Fred Griswold, husband James Cole Sr., sisters Rachael Henry and Pearly Tipton, brother Jessie Smith, daughter Barbara McKee, son James Cole Jr., granddaughter Mary Huff and great-grandson Michael Lamb. She is survived by Sister in law Carol Smith of Thackerville, daughters Mary Hernaiz of Marietta, Shirley Cole of Ada, Carolyn Hooper and husband Mark of Okc., Sharon Williams husband Scott of Ardmore; Ella Williams and husband Chuck of Ardmore, son David Cole of Okc.
