Hastings resident David A. Powers, 84, died Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at his home.

Mr. Powers was born December 2, 1924 to Wilber D. and Ella (Doll) Powers in Hastings. He graduated from Hastings High School class of 1942. On August 12, 1952 he married Elizabeth Grace Messing at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings. He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad from 1942 until his retirement in 1987. He was also active in real estate development and investments. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Lochland Country Club and the United Transportation Union in which he served as Vice Chairman of the State Legislature Executive Board form 1960 to 1966.

Survivors are his wife Grace; daughter, Corinne V. Stickels; son, Patrick J. Powers both of Hastings; brother, Paul H. Powers of Hastings; two sisters, Betty Ann Gray of Decatur, Alabama, Carol Weichman of Ogden, Utah; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Christopher Matthew Powers; three sisters, Alice Lutz, Irene Korgan, and Ella May Kile.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
