Mr. Abernathy was born on May 5, 1912 in South Alabama and grew up in Lucedale, MS where his family owned a bakery. Mr. Abernathy was a veteran of WWII who retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. where he worked for the Soil Conversation Service. An avid reader who complained about nothing, said little but when he spoke you listened.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dell G. Abernathy.
Survivors include two grandsons, Jimmy D. Giles and Greg S. Giles; a great grandson, Cody Giles; and a great granddaughter, Taylor Giles.
