Funeral services for Mrs. Gerrit Hoekstra were held Friday at 1:00 o'clock at the home and at 1:30 at the local First Christian Reformed Church of which she was a member. The officiating pastors were Rev. H. C. Van Deelen of Rock Valley and Rev. J. Masselink of Orange City.
Mrs. Hoekstra died at her home in Rock Valley on January 7, 1952, at the age of 73 years and three months.
Alice Van Otterloo was born at Orange City, Iowa, October 11th, 1878. Her family moved to New Holland, South Dakota, and later came to Rock Valley.
She was united in marriage on February 27, 1900, to Gerrit Hoekstra, and to this union eight children were born.
The Hoekstra family moved to Hancock, Minnesota in 1911 and returned to the Rock Valley area in 1926 where they engaged in farming until 1944 when they retired and moved into town. The couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1950.
All of her children were home for the funeral. They are: Lena, Mrs. Harry Pieksma of Bellflower, California; Jessie, Mrs. J. P. Boer of Alton; Fanny, Mrs. Al Ekema of Redlands, California; Sue, Mrs. Sam T. Kooima of Hull, Iowa; Tony, Grand Rapids, Michigan; John, Doon, Iowa; Charlie, Hudson, South Dakota; Ann, Mrs. John Dirksen, Rock Valley. She is. also survived by twenty-five grandchildren and six great-grand children, her stepmother, Mrs Steve Van Otterloo of Sioux Center; her brothers, Herman S. Van Otterloo of Rock Valley; Gerrit Van Otterloo of Holland, Michigan; Johannes of Ireton; and a half sister, Mrs. Henry Ter Haar and Piet Van Otterloo of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Pall beavers were Sam J. Kooima, Steve Van Otterloo, Steve II Van Otterloo, August Ykema, Sam Van Otterloo and John Van Otterloo. Interment was in Valley View Cemetery.
