Samuel Scott

Suggested Edit: Samuel Scott was the son of William Scott and his first wife, Emily Gillilan. William and Emily were married in October 1835 according to the biographical information about William Scott in the HISTORY OF LOGAN COUNTY AND OHIO, Chicago: O.L. Basking & Company, Historical Publishers 1880 on Page 768. The children born to Emily are not listed in this biography but their names are listed with William in the 1850 FEDERAL CENSUS for Monroe Township, Logan County, Ohio. Listed in that census were: John Scott, age 13, Milton Scott, age 12, Samuel Scott, age 10, William Scott, Jr., age 9, Ruth Scott, age 6, and Marietta Scott, age 4. Also on that Census are William's parents Samuel Scott, 70, born in Ireland, and Ruth, 65, born in Delaware, and Phoebe Ellis, 25, Vermont although that should be Canada. Samuel Scott appears again in the 1860 Federal Census along with his father, step-mother Phoebe Ellis, siblings: John, 23, Milton, 22, Samuel, 20, William, 18, Ruth, 16, and Mary (Marietta), 12. His half-siblings are: Archibald, age 9 , Ellis, 7, Charles, 3, and Laura, 1. There are not many records about Emily (Gillilan) Scott but it appears that she was the daughter of William Gillilan (1789-1854) and Anna Edmiston/Edmondson (1789-1832). Emily was born in April of 1818 and died in Logan County about 1847. It is not known where she is buried.

Suggested edit: Samuel Scott married Mary Rebecca Huffman 08 Apr 1880 in Champaign Co OH. Mary is listed on Samuel Scott's pension index card and again on the 1890 veteran's census. Mary Huffman Scott married Henry W Arledge in 1892 and after his death in 1928, she reapplied for Samuel Scott's pension.

Thanks for all you do.
