Deceased Name: JOHN L. MONICA MAINTENANCE MAN
The funeral for John L. "Chubb" Monica , 49, of 26765 Nellis Road, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown, with the Rev. Ted J. Monica, his brother, officiating. Burial will be in North Watertown Cemetery.
Mr. Monica died Sunday afternoon at his home, where he was under the care of his family and Jefferson County Public Heath. He had been ill with diabetes and died of cardiac arrhythmia.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Monica was a bus mechanic for Jefferson Rehabilitation Center, Watertown, in the 1970s. He worked nights for CFM, unloading freight cars, and last was employed in building maintenence for Phelps Corp., Watertown, retiring in 1984 because of ill health.
Born June 22, 1956, in Watertown, son of Oliver J. and RoseMarie LaVere Monica, he attended Watertown schools.
He was a former member of Watertown Eagles Aerie 782 and enjoyed wrestling, Buffalo Bills football, hunting and fishing.
Surviving besides his father, of Watertown, and his brother, of Johnstown, are two sisters, Mary Ellen Monica, Adams, and Tammy S. Monica-Pecori, Watertown; two other brothers, Mark J., Syracuse, and William O., with whom he lived, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A sister, Mary Lou, died in infancy in 1955.
