Matthew Wright Evans was born to Bob and Susan Evans. He was an active, strong boy, full of energy. Being only 7 years old, his parents enrolled him in my karate class and Matthew led the way for the other kids. He was a great student and was learning so fast.

On December 6, 1986, my karate class participated in the Christmas parade in Azle, Texas. My students were dressed in their karate gear and rode on a 14 foot, flat-bed trailer. As the parade went down Main St, they would take turns demonstrating their karate to the on-lookers. When the parade was over, we all gathered on the trailer and truck bed, returning to our vehicles to go home, having a great time, being together and laughing. I was in the back of the truck with some students while Matthew and the rest of the class rode on the trailer with some parents. We were only traveling about 10mph, taking our time, when all of a horrible sudden, the trailer's right tires had seemed to run over something. Then I saw Matthew lying in the street, motionless. He had been near the edge of the trailer and had fallen off under the wheels.

I realize freak accidents happen, even to little children. Matthew has stayed in my heart and I know he has met my grandson, Landen.
See you soon, Matthew. My love to you and your family...
