Loretta Marie Hodde, 87, of Brenham, and the widow of Dr. Herman O. Hodde, died Nov. 28, 2003 at the family residence in Brenham.

She was born Nov. 6, 1916 in Two Rivers, Wis., the daughter of Michael and Marie Raatz Knipfer, next to the youngest of five children.

Loretta graduated from the Atlantic City Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse Oct. 17, 1941 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from December 1941 to February 1944 as a flight nurse. She was stationed at Chanute Field, Ill., Long Beach, Calif. and Palm Springs, Calif. during that period. She resided in Brenham, Texas from 1944 until her death where she was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, Buddy Wright Post #48.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, 1st Lt. Dellie O. Ullrich, U.S. Army Air Corps, in 1943; and by her second husband, Dr. Herman O. Hodde, March 4, 1996.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Carolyn Ullrich of Pagosa Springs, Colo; son, Charles H. Hodde of Brenham; grandson, Colin P. Ullrich of Conroe; granddaughter, Tiffany L. Ullrich of Boulder, Colo.; great-grandson, Joshua Hunter; sister, Vera Zerba of Hastings, Mich.; brother and sister-in-law, Ivan and Virginia Knipfer of Two Rivers, Wis.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Loretta Marie Hodde will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Lawrence Bade and Pastor Kim Little-Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.

Memorials may be given to American Red Cross, 509 South Baylor St., Brenham, Texas 77833.
