Alex Earl Johnson Sr., 60, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2009, at St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born November 20, 1948, to the late Emeritus Supt. Robert Lee Johnson and Earline Martin Johnson, in Jackson, Mississippi.

He attended Culver Grade School, Central High School, and graduated from North High School. He then attended Lockyear Business College.

Alex served two terms in Vietnam, receiving a Purple Heart, and retired from Whirlpool after 37 years.

He was a devoted husband and father. His hobbies were fishing and gardening, and he loved to work on cars. Before passing, Alex gave his life to Christ.

Surviving are his wife of 14 years, Gwendolyn;

Alex was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph (Janet); and sister, Patricia.

A homecoming celebration will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Christian Tabernacle, 1041 Washington Avenue, officiated by Bishop David Johnson, with entombment at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
