Although there is no known proof to say that Michael and his wife, Maria Margareth Bauer a daughter of Dietrich Bauer of Walkersville area of Frederick County are buried here it would be hard to believe that they are not. They owned property near by, 3 acres of "Stephens Hope" and two acres adjoining the 3 acres and attended church at St. Johns, Church Hill.

Michael and Margareth buried a 17 year old son Gorg Rice in this Cemetery, and to Gorg's right and to Gorg's left are unmarked graves.I n these graves I believe are buried Michael and Margareth Rice, Henry and Betsy Wastler Rice, Sophia "Sofee" Rice and possibly Jacob and Sussannah Rice.

Any one who has lost a child would want to be buried with their child when death comes to them, and I am sure Michael and Maria were no different.

In order to have a Christian burial place to honor those I and many thousands of other decendants of these few have decended, I will place my great-great-great-great-grandparents, Michael and Margareth Bauer Rice, and my Great-Great-Great-grandparents Henry and Elizabeth "Betsy" Wastler Rice here in this cemetery with Gorg Rice.

Michael was a Hession soldier, if he was the Michael Rice that was held at the Hession Barracks, or a deserter I do not know.

He married Maria Margeth Bauers and these children were born, Jacob Rice who married Susannah "Susanna" Flexier or Flexon, Henry Rice who married Elizabeth (Warstler) Wastler, Gorg Rice who died before his eighteenth birthday, Sophia "Sofee" Rice who never married and John Rice, who married Elizabeth Marker.

Michael and Margerth had a five acre farm located on what is now East Church Hill Road a parcel of land called "Stephens Hope".
