She was born July 24, 1932, in Windsor, the daughter of Harold and Flora (Kavanaugh) Smith, and received her education in local schools.
She married William R. Abbott Jr. in Windsor on July 23, 1950.
Mrs. Abbott was employed at Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor for several years. She also provided childcare in her home in Windsor for several years.
She enjoyed playing bingo, watching movies, doing puzzles and time spent at the ocean.
Survivors include a son, Michael Abbott of Kingsland, Ga.; three daughters, Debra Kelly of Rutland, Donna Vinopal of Hartland and Kathleen O'Neill of Windsor; a brother and two sisters, Raymond Smith; Katherine Daignault and Pauline Wirasnik, all of Windsor; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1997; a brother, Ronald Smith, and a sister, Sylvia Gates.
At Mrs. Abbott's request, the graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, in Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center with the Rev. Dave Jones officiating. A reception will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Vermont Affiliate, PO Box 1460, Williston, VT 05495-1460.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.
