Arthur "Art" M. Tyler Jr., 75, died Nov. 7, 2009, at his home in St. Albans. He was born in Veazie, Jan. 7, 1934, son of Arthur and Florence (Avery) Tyler; and was raised in Dexter by his grandparents, Fred and Eva Avery.
He served for four years in the U.S. Marine Corps and then served for 21 years in the US Army. After retiring from the Army, Art worked for several years in Colorado as a security guard. After moving back to Maine he was very active in the St. Albans Fire Department, the St. Albans Grange and was a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (MacDonald) Tyler of St. Albans; a son, Clyde Tyler of CO; two brothers, Frederick Tyler and his wife, Virginia of Cambridge, and Reginald Tyler and his wife, Margie of Brooks; three half-brothers, Gary Tyler of Florida, Fred Tyler and his wife, Alice of North Caroline, and William Tyler of Florida; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Marie, and a son, Arthur III.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St. in Newport, with Pastor Greg Arnold officiating. Burial with military honors, will be in the St. Albans Village Cemetery, following the funeral. (Morning Sentinel 11/9/2009)
