Marjorie Ellen Van Pelt, age 82, of Hudson, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008, in Toledo, Ohio following a long illness. She had been a resident at Darlington for nearly five years, following a disabling accident.

She was born June 18, 1925, the first child to Estel and Blanch (Balser) Beaverson of Fulton County, Ohio. After moving to Adrian at 17, she was employed with the Kroger Company, training in management. In 1950 Marjorie married and was actively engaged in farming with her husband, Lawrence "Babe" Thompson Wellnitz, for 40 years in Hudson Township, Michigan. They raised sheep and grew grain crops for most of this time, and they enjoyed every part of farm life. She could plow a field and make a garden better than anyone, and she was particularly fond of her strawberry patch. Marjorie always made her own decisions and was fiercely independent, with a great sense of humor. She was a life-long country resident, enjoying gardening, canning, cooking, and especially bread making. After being widowed in 1977, Marjorie remarried in 1985 to another farmer, Howard Van Pelt of Yankee Rd., Ottawa Lake, Michigan. They spent winters in Sebring, Florida. They especially enjoyed time with their grandchildren. Marjorie's family is grateful for the loving care provided by the staff of Darlington.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by Lawrence and Howard. Funeral services for Marjorie will be held on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Hudson, Michigan.

Those wishing to remember Marjorie are asked to donate to the house of worship of their choice or to a charity benefiting United States service men and women.
