Paul Blair Spencer Sr., age 89, was a native of Anson County, North Carolina, and a Norfolk, Virginia resident for sixty years. Paul was a son of Thomas Albion Spencer [b 1880 Randolph County, NC - d 1950 Hampton City, Virginia] and Irene Osberry Davidson [b 1883 Moore County, NC - d 1959 Newport News, Virginia] both originally from North Carolina, who preceded him in death. Thomas and Irene [Davidson] Spencer were the loving parents of:

Paul is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Evelyn McMullan (Jackson) Spencer, a daughter, Karen Spencer of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and Paul Spencer, Jr. and his wife Janice, and their children, Grace, Alexandra, and Shane of Suffolk. He is also survived by a sister Grace (Spencer) [Dobson] Sawyer of Edenton, North Carolina and a younger brother, Clyde Spencer of Yorktown, Virginia.
Paul Spencer was the owner of Fairmount Building Supplies in Norfolk, past President of the Lions Club, a member of the Masons, the Khedive Shriners and the Norfolk Shriner Rites. Paul was a member of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide NCAA Championship 1941 football team. He was the leading rusher and scorer for Alabama in 1939 and 1940, and played in the Rose Bowl in 1940. All American for 1940.
LT. Paul B. Spencer served in the US Navy and was a blimp pilot for most of World War II flying anti reconnaissance missions up and down the coast of North America and South America.
Paul Blair Spencer and Evelyn McMullan Jackson married on October 29, 1944, Suffolk, Virginia. Paul and Evelyn were much in love and happy together. Paul and Evelyn's two fine children were the absolute joy of their lives! In later years they were thankful to have wonderful grandchildren whom they loved dearly; their family meant everything to them.
Paul was an avid supporter of his community. A Christian, he had a generous heart for people less fortunate and quietly helped many. Paul will be greatly missed by family, friends, and colleagues, and those who knew him. He was an inspiration to our family, always optimistic and caring, and we will never forget his big smile, strength of character and his kind, humble spirit. A life well lived. Ad infinitum.
